Ibiza and its neighbour Formentera make up the Pityusic Islands, the western group of the Balearics, south-west of Mallorca and off the Spanish mainland. Ibiza Town, with its harbour below the walls of the old city, is the capital and the ferry port for the mainland and Formentera. The short crossing to Formentera and the anchorages at Espalmador and Illetes is the classic run in a season from late spring into early autumn.
