Tucked into an inlet at the foot of its promontory on the Ligurian coast east of Genoa, Portofino is a former fishing village turned resort whose small natural harbour opens onto the Gulf of Tigullio, near Santa Margherita Ligure and Rapallo. The harbour is tight and the waters around the promontory are a marine protected area, so larger yachts stay outside and visit by tender, usually on a summer run along the Italian Riviera.
